Why Train?

Why train?

The simple answer is "to get better."

For professional athletes training is about winning.  Constant competition creates the need for constant improvement.

Organizations that shortchange their training programs will always fail to meet their potential.

Individuals who avoid training, assume they already know everything they need to know to do their job, and/or regard any form of evaluation as a threat will never reach their full potential.

As a teacher and trainer, I'm always looking for better ways to do things. When I was a full-time radio broadcaster I wanted to be air-checked (for the non-broadcasters reading this, air-checks involve listening to your performance with someone who will help you see how it could be better) because I always wanted to be better.  I still do.  Say what you like about Home Depot you can't argue with their slogan "never stop improving."

This blog is aimed specifically at public radio stations but many of the things I will write about have broader applications.  This is sort of an introduction.

As we say on the radio, stay tuned.
